HĂ„kon Stene is the “special guest” of the 1st int. Insight Days Percussion.
We are really happy, that he agreed to offer insight to his approach to contemporary percussion by giving a masterclass at our event!
HĂ„kon Stene studied percussion and chamber music in Oslo, Freiburg and San Diego. From 2005â2008 he was selected for the launch programme INTRO for young soloists by Concerts Norway. He has performed internationally as a soloist with Ensemble Modern, London Sinfonietta, 2e2m, and Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, furthermore, with ensembles such as asamisimasa (Contemporary), Pantha Du Prince & Conference of Trees (Techno), Rolf Lislevand Ensemble (Baroque) and Nils Ăkland Band (Folk /Impro). He has received the Norwegian Spellemann Prize (Grammy) five times, both as a chamber musician and as a soloist.
HĂ„kon collaborates with numerous composers across generations and styles. A special interest of his has been the expanded role of the instrumentalist in experimental music. This topic was explored in the research projects ââThis is Not a Drumâ â Towards a Post-Instrumental Practiceâ and the post-doctoral project âMusic with the Realâ undertaken at the Norwegian Academy of Music from 2010â2017.
Since 2017 he is appointed professor of percussion at the Hochschule fĂŒr Musik, Freiburg im Breisgau.Â (Picture by Laura RuĂ)
